U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, along with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Schools Chancellor Joel Klein, will deliver remarks at a press conference Thursday in New York to announce a modernization of GED tests, long used to certify high school-level academic skills.
Speaking at the Mid-Manhattan Adult Learning Center, Duncan will discuss the value of updating the GED and the critical role that out-of-school youth and adults will play in meeting President Obama's goal of America leading the world in college completion by 2020.
Also appearing at the event will be Molly Corbett Broad, president of the American Council on Education, and Dennis White, MetLife Foundation CEO and president, who will jointly announce a pilot program in New York City’s District 79 to help develop the modernized GED Test. Afterwards, Duncan, Bloomberg and others will visit classes at the Mid-Manhattan Adult Learning Center.
