U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan and John King, senior advisor delegated duties of deputy secretary of education, will participate in a keynote conversation during the Trayvon Martin Foundation's National Youth Empowerment and Solutions Teen Summit on Friday, Oct. 23, in Miami. They will talk about the importance of education and the powerful impact young people can make when they take on issues that affect their lives and their communities.  Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie will moderate the discussion. Nearly a thousand students from Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, and from across the country, have been invited to participate in the summit.

The Teen Summit will enable students to hear and learn from a panel of recognized experts and leaders in diverse areas about problems and how to formulate solutions to those problems. The students will then work collaboratively in break out groups to come up with solutions to problems they have previously identified as being important to them and then present their solutions at the conference.
