President's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics to Hold 2015 Spring Public Meeting in New York

Senior officials from the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics (Initiative) will give remarks at the 2015 Spring Meeting of the President's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics on Tuesday, April 14 at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City.  The day-long meeting begins at 9 a.m. ET.

In the morning, Executive Director Alejandra Ceja and Senior Advisor Jaqueline Cortez-Wang will provide updates on the Initiative’s “Anniversary Year of Action: Fulfilling America’s Future.” Later in the afternoon, Deputy Director Marco Davis will announce a partnership and MOU signing with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation.

Other highlights of the meeting include remarks by: Eduardo Padrón, chair, President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics; Jeremy Travis, president, John Jay College of Criminal Justice; Carmen Fariña, chancellor, New York City Public Schools; Roberto Rodriguez, special assistant to the President for Education, Domestic Policy Council, White House; and Jose Antonio Tijerino, president and CEO, Hispanic Heritage Foundation.

The 27-member commission meets twice a year as a full committee to discuss key topics relevant to the Hispanic community. The panel advises President Obama and U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan on issues important to the Latino community, from cradle-to-career.
