U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will visit Jeremiah E. Burke High School Thursday in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood. Last month, Burke High won the 10th annual School on the Move award as the city’s most improved public school – an honor presented by the Boston school improvement organization EdVestors.
Upon arriving, Secretary Duncan will tour two classrooms before delivering remarks to the school community, teachers from the surrounding area and other stakeholders. In his comments, he will discuss the progress states and districts have seen in the last six years in partnership with the Department’s signature programs and policies, including Race to the Top and School Improvement Grants.
Duncan will be joined by Massachusetts Secretary of Education James Peyser, Massachusetts Education Commissioner Mitchell D. Chester and Boston School Superintendent Tommy Chang.
