David Johns, executive director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans (WHIEEAA), will be the guest speaker at an Askwith Forum hosted by the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) at 5:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Dec. 2, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Johns will discuss WHIEEAA’s purpose and goals, share lessons learned from heading the Initiative since its inception in early 2013, and discuss actions and ideas to ensure all students – especially students of color – achieve academic excellence. Harvard professor Karen Mapp will moderate the event, which will include a Q&A about improving student achievement.
The Obama Administration strongly believes that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, and education is crucial to the economic strength and security of our nation and communities. The Department of Education’s work is focused on ensuring all students receive an education that prepares them for success in life and their career, through programs including Promise Neighborhoods, School Improvement Grants, Race to the Top, and ConnectED, as well as ED's work to expand access to preschool.
