Monique Chism, deputy assistant secretary in the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, and Libia Gil, assistant deputy secretary and director of the Office of English Language Acquisition will deliver keynote remarks and participate in panel discussions at the Missouri 2016 Federal Programs Conference on Monday, Sept. 26 in Osage Beach, Missouri.
Both Chism and Gil will give remarks during opening of the general session, which starts at 8 a.m. CT. At the 10:15 a.m. CT breakout sessions, Chism will give a broad overview of the recently passed Every Student Succeeds Act and plans for its implementation, and discuss the importance of coordinating efforts across federal programs to close opportunity gaps; Gil's session will highlight ESSA implications and opportunities for English learners. Gil will also discuss the federal role in helping schools meet the needs of ELs.
