U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will deliver remarks honoring school leaders at the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) 2014 National Distinguished Principals awards gala on Friday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. ET, at the Capital Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. Secretary Duncan will commend the educators for their hard work and remind them that they are making important progress in the transition to college- and career-ready standards. Duncan will encourage educators to continue their efforts in order to ensure all children have the opportunity to reach that goal.

The two-day celebration program recognizes National Distinguished Principal (NDP) awardees from districts across the nation, and from the U.S. Departments of Defense Office of Educational Activity and the U.S. Department of State Office of Overseas Schools, for their exemplary achievements. The NDP program honors outstanding elementary and middle-level administrators who ensure that America’s children acquire a sound foundation for lifelong learning and achievement. The principals will also have the opportunity to share best practices. The 61 principal honorees are selected by NAESP state affiliates and by committees representing private and overseas schools.

A list of the 2014 NDPs and their biographical information is available at www.naesp.org/ndp.
