U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan will host a roundtable discussion with teachers and principals from around the country on Monday, July 7 to hear about their experiences and how to incorporate promising practices to support educators in high-need schools. The event will address the importance of providing all students access to great educators.

Some of the educators serving as panelists come from Springdale, Arkansas; Washington, D.C.; San Jose, California; Greensboro, North Carolina; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Chattanooga, Tennessee; and McDowell County, West Virginia.

Following the discussion, there will be a media availability with Secretary Duncan, Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, Wade Henderson, president and CEO of Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights; and Chris Minnich, executive director of the Council of Chief State School Officers.

The Obama Administration’s commitment to equity in education underlies nearly every significant activity of the Department, from the My Brother’s Keeper Initiative, Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) flexibility, and School Improvement Grants, to its Race to the Top – Opportunity proposal, among others.
