Kiran Ahuja, executive director of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, will address a forum Thursday in Carson, Calif., examining health disparities among racial and ethnic groups.

Ahuja will speak to the 2011 REACH US California and Beyond Conference — a gathering aimed at broadening the discussion of racial and ethnic health disparities to include a human rights and social justice perspective. Participants will consider strategies to move America toward health equity.

REACH U.S. (Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health Across the United States) is a funded initiative of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Ahuja will provide an overview of the White House Initiative and discuss how her group is collaborating with various federal agencies to address health disparities among Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. She will also share her personal experience as it relates to being female and an AAPI professional in the government workforce.
