Deputy Secretary Jim Shelton to Address Howard University Student Association Conference “Democracy in Action”

Deputy Secretary Jim Shelton will give remarks at the Howard University Student Association’s (HUSA) 2014 HBCU conference at 10:15 a.m. ET on Thursday, Sept. 18, in Washington, D.C. He will discuss the Administration’s initiatives to make college more affordable and college costs more transparent for students and families.

Titled “Democracy in Action,” the conference will bring together more than 250 students from 15 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) for workshops and presentations on issues of concern to the HBCU community, with a focus on college affordability, voting rights, and police accountability. The conference will also promote civic involvement and equipping students with the skills to advocate on their own behalf.
