Deputy Assistant Secretary Yudin to Address Education Department’s Teacher Quality Annual Meeting

Michael Yudin, deputy assistant secretary for elementary and secondary education at the U.S. Department of Education, will give remarks at the annual meeting of state directors of the department’s teacher quality program, also known as Title II, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, in Crystal City, Va.

The meeting, titled “Using Evaluation to Improve Educator Effectiveness”, will bring together close to 100 educators to address teacher quality issues such as building educator capacity to teach college and career ready standards, evaluating professional development, and developing effective state evaluation systems for teachers and principals. Yudin will open the conference and highlight the importance of effective teachers and leaders, especially in hard-to-serve communities and subject areas. He will reaffirm the department’s commitment to work with states in recruiting, retraining, and supporting an effective teaching force.
