Russlynn Ali, assistant secretary for the Office for Civil Rights, will participate on a panel discussion on equity for women and girls, as part of the 2011 American Association of University Women National Convention Thursday in Washington, D.C.
Ali is scheduled to appear on a panel, "Women in Power in the Obama Administration," along with Tina M. Tchen, chief of staff for First Lady Michelle Obama; Patricia Shiu, programs director for the Office of Federal Contract Compliance; and Jocelyn Samuels, senior counselor to the assistant attorney general for civil rights at the Justice Department.
In her remarks, Ali will discuss the work of her office, which enforces Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. That law prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in all education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance.
