Catherine E. Lhamon, assistant secretary for civil rights at the U.S. Department of Education, will address the annual conference of the Education Law Association Thursday in Westminster, Colo. Lhamon will speak to a featured session on "Civil Rights in Education: The Importance of Equal Access and Opportunity for Our Nation's Students."
The Education Law Association is a national, nonprofit organization offering information to its professional members about current legal issues affecting education and the rights of those involved in education in both public and private K-12 schools, colleges and universities.
Lhamon leads the Education Department's Office for Civil Rights whose mission is to ensure equal access to education and promote educational excellence throughout America through vigorous enforcement of civil rights.
