Catherine E. Lhamon, assistant secretary for civil rights at the U.S. Department of Education, will deliver the opening address at the 2015 national convention of the American Association of University Women Friday in San Diego.

Lhamon will discuss her Office for Civil Rights’ efforts to address sexual violence and harassment on college campuses and in elementary and secondary schools. She will also spotlight the increasing educational opportunities available for women and girls, including in the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and math, and OCR’s work to address discrimination against pregnant and parenting students.  In April, her office issued guidance on the role of Title IX coordinators at America’s education institutions.
