Dr. Alexa Posny, assistant secretary for the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, will visit the Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) Thursday in Frederick.
Since 1868, the school has provided educational services for Maryland's deaf and hard of hearing students. Its programs feature innovative instruction and emerging technologies, serving children and youths from birth through age 21.
As assistant secretary, Posny oversees administration of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) which provides America's 6.6 million children and youths with disabilities with the right to a free appropriate public education.
