Thelma Meléndez de Santa Ana, assistant secretary for elementary and secondary education at the U.S. Department of Education, will deliver remarks at two events regarding migrant education — both being held Wednesday at the Sheraton Philadelphia City Center, 17th & Race streets in Philadelphia.

At 9 a.m. Wednesday, Meléndez will address the closing session of the 2010 Conference for the Office of Migrant Education, sponsored by U.S. Education Department. There, she will underscore the theme of the gathering, “Success through Service,” and discuss her vision of success in serving migrant children through collaboration and sharing of best practices.

At 2 p.m., Meléndez will speak to the opening session of the 2010 Binational Migrant Education Forum. She will discuss the partnership between the U.S. and Mexico in providing an excellent education for all migrant children.

As assistant secretary, Meléndez oversees the Education Department's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, serving students in grades K-12 across the country.
