Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Catherine E. Lhamon to Keynote Symposium on Extending STEM Learning to Historically Underrepresented Groups

Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Catherine E. Lhamon will give the keynote address at a symposium on providing underrepresented groups more access to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education on Tuesday, May 27, at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. Lhamon will discuss the U.S. Department of Education’s work to advance equity in STEM education.

The day-long symposium will explore how to increase access to STEM programs for students of color, high poverty communities, women and girls, and students with disabilities. It is sponsored by The Leadership Conference Education Fund and Educational Testing Service.

Lhamon leads the Education Department's Office for Civil Rights, whose mission is to ensure equal access to education and promote educational excellence throughout America through vigorous enforcement of civil rights.
