Catherine E. Lhamon, assistant secretary for civil rights at the U.S. Department of Education, will speak to the quarterly meeting of the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention on Wednesday at the Justice Department. Lhamon will brief participants on OCR’s recently announced Civil Rights Data Collection.

The collection offered the first comprehensive look at civil rights data from every public school in the country in nearly 15 years. OCR surveyed all 97,000 of the nation's public schools and its 16,500 school districts—covering 49 million students.

Also scheduled at the meeting are presentations from researchers, practitioners, a family court judge, a parent, and a youth representative on the topic of school discipline.
