Assistant Education Secretary Dann-Messier to Promote Career and Technical Education Pathways during Visit to Washington State

Brenda Dann-Messier, assistant secretary for Vocational and Adult Education, will travel to Seattle, Wash., on Tuesday, May 3, to participate in several community and technical education events. At 9:15 a.m. PDT, Dann-Messier will address the National Conference on Integrated Basic Skills Pathways at the Westin Seattle. The event is hosted by Jobs for the Future, which aims to identify and develop new educational and workforce strategies to help communities, states and the nation compete in a global economy.

Later that day, Dann-Messier will host two Career and Technical Education Community Conversations at Aviation High School in Des Moines, Wash. The first session will be held with students from 12:30-1:45 p.m PDT. The second meeting with be with employers and mentors from 1:50-3 p.m PDT. As part of her continuing nationwide Career and Technical Education Community Conversation listening tour, Dann-Messier facilitates listening sessions to solicit partner and constituent feedback regarding the role of the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act (Perkins IV) to help ensure that all students are college and career ready.
