Assistant Deputy Secretary Shelton to Discuss Social and Emotional Learning in Education Reform at Forum in Chicago

Assistant Deputy Secretary for Innovation and Improvement Jim Shelton will attend the 2013 Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) Forum and join a panel discussion on a new report being released on Wednesday, May 15, at 9 a.m., at the Mid-America Club in Chicago. The bi-annual forum, "Social and Emotional Learning: Momentum!” will bring together education leaders to discuss the new report titled “The Missing Piece:  A National Teacher Survey on How Social and Emotional Learning Can Empower Children and Transform Schools,” by Civic Enterprises and Peter D. Hart Research Associates. Along with Shelton, the panel will include: Darlene Ruscitti, DuPage, Ill., Regional Office of Education; Jillian Ahrens, Teacher, Cleveland Metropolitan School District; and teacher Brett Murphy with student Desiree Cintron from North Grand High School, Chicago Public Schools.
