Kevin Jennings, assistant deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools, will speak to a student assembly at Bethesda-Chevy Chase (BCC) high school on Thursday, April 28, at 9:30 a.m. He will address the importance of creating safe, supportive school environments and the harmful impact of bullying and harassment on the emotional well-being and academic performance of youth.

Earlier this year, students at Bethesda Chevy-Chase high school launched a Safe Place Initiative to encourage civility and combat negative behaviors among the students. Jennings’ address will support and bolster the schoolwide efforts to create a safe environment for all its students.
