Acting Under Secretary of Education Jamienne Studley will deliver remarks during the Presidents Program Luncheon at the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Annual Conference on Quality in Higher Education on Saturday, April 12, 2014, in Chicago. Studley will discuss President Obama’s proposal to develop a college rating system that informs students and encourages institutions to improve and innovate. She will also discuss the role that accreditation plays in ensuring high quality education and advancing student and institutional success in this dynamic environment.

This event brings together chief executive officers, trustees, other administrators, and faculty from the Higher Learning Commission’s accredited institutions. The conference places emphasis on improving student learning through the sharing of best practices in higher education.

The college rating system aims to identify colleges that provide good value aligned with three key principles: access, affordability, and outcomes. The Department is gathering the input of students and parents, state leaders, college presidents, and many others on how to develop the ratings.
