Acting U.S. Education Secretary to Give Remarks at the “CodeGirl” Film Viewing: A Film to Inspire, Empower Girls to Close the Technology Gender Gap

Acting U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr. will give remarks at the CodeGirl film viewing and discussion in Washington, D.C., at 1 p.m. ET on Thursday, Jan. 28. The film, which will be introduced by Kate Sheerin, Senior Policy Analyst at Google, follows high school girls from around the world who are participating in the Technovation Challenge and trying to better their communities through technology and collaboration.

King will make opening remarks prior to a panel discussion following the film. The panel will feature five of the students who developed apps for the competition, a representative from the “Technovation Challenge,” and Teaching Ambassador Fellow JoLisa Hoover, who will serve as the moderator. The U.S. Department of Education, Chief Digital Service Officer Lisa Gelobter, will give closing remarks. Students from HD Cooke Elementary School will attend the event.
