Acting U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr. will give remarks at the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards' (NBPTS) Teaching and Learning Conference on Friday, March 11, in Washington, D.C. He will highlight the importance of teachers as leaders in the effort to provide educational excellence and equity for all students. He also will discuss the Obama Administration's work, in partnership with national organizations like the NBPTS and the American Federation of Teachers, to promote teacher leadership. In addition, King will emphasize the opportunity, presented by the new Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), to better serve our children, and the essential role educators must play in making sure that the new law fulfills its potential to improve outcomes for all students.
The conference, which begins on Friday and continues through Saturday, March 12, will bring together educators and advocates to discuss and shape the teaching profession in innovative and bold new ways.
