On Tuesday, March 27, John Silvanus Wilson Jr., Executive Director of the White House Initiative on HBCUs, will convene a meeting at the Department with the Association of Black Foundation Executives (ABFE) to discuss how HBCUs can help improve education and employment options for African American males.
Wilson has asked the ABFE to coordinate a conversation with philanthropic leaders and institutions that are interested in improving college access, retention, completion and success for underserved populations; have an expressed interest in African American males; and are HBCU supporters.
The White House Initiative on HBCUs is responding to President Obama’s call for America to have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world by 2020, and is exploring the role of HBCUs in helping to develop and improve the professional options, potential and productivity of African American males.
