Education Secretary Highlights Labor Collaboration in Toledo as Part of "Education and the Economy" Bus Tour

On Wednesday, Sept. 7, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will end the first day of his "Education and the Economy" bus tour with a visit to the Toledo Federation of Teachers Union Hall in Toledo at 7:20 p.m. Duncan will join Toledo Superintendent Jerome Pecko for a meeting with local labor leaders to learn more about their peer review panel and to talk about the role labor management collaboration plays in supporting students and driving school success. A press availability will follow the panel discussion.

Assistant Education Secretary Brenda Dann-Messier travels to Toledo today with a visit to the University of Toledo Innovation Center at 3 p.m. ET where she will discuss the importance of career and technical education. Duncan and Dann-Messier’s visits are part of a series of events being hosted by Department officials across the Great Lakes region through Friday. The various events will highlight education reforms and innovations that are providing students of all ages with the knowledge and skills they need to be part of a well-educated workforce in the growing global economy.
