U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will recognize the exceptional leadership of principals from across the country during the National Association of Elementary School Principals National Distinguished Principals Program Banquet on Friday evening. In his remarks, Duncan will discuss how the Administration wants to provide relief to school districts by providing more flexibility around No Child Left Behind so principals and teachers can better ensure that students are receiving a high-quality, well-rounded education. Duncan will also highlight how badly states and schools need funding that would be provided through the American Jobs Act.

Overall, the President’s American Jobs Act plan invests $30 billion that will allow hundreds of thousands of teachers to keep their job, and it also allocates $30 billion for the repair, renovation and modernization of school buildings across the country. While the bill would help finance long overdue repairs, it would also create needed jobs and help put hundreds of thousands of Americans back to work.
