Education Secretary Arne Duncan to Address U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Legislative Summit

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will be the opening speaker at the plenary session, "America's Greatest Investment: Educating the Future," at the 23rd Annual Legislative Summit of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, in Washington, D.C. Duncan will discuss a range of issues critical to the Hispanic community, including the President’s proposal to expand access to high-quality preschool to every child in America, the DREAM Act, efforts to make college more affordable, and the recent upsurge in Hispanic enrollment in higher education.

Following Duncan's remarks, a panel will elaborate on these issues and discuss their importance to America's economic prosperity. Panel members include Marco Davis, Acting Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, Francisco Cigarroa, Chancellor, University of Texas system, and Trey Grayson, Director of Harvard University's Institute on Politics.
