U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will unveil on Friday a proposal to reform and improve America's teacher preparation programs, aimed at better preparing educators for classroom success.
Secretary Duncan's announcement will take place at an event hosted by the independent think tank Education Sector at the Capital Hilton Hotel in Washington. His remarks will be webcast at www.educationsector.org.
Following the Secretary's presentation, National Education Association President Dennis Van Roekel and Teach For America Founder and CEO Wendy Kopp will add their thoughts on the best way to recruit and prepare tomorrow's teachers. A distinguished panel will then offer its insights on the challenges and opportunities involved in preparing the best teachers for the classroom.
Later at 1:45 p.m. ET, Duncan will hold a press conference call with reporters to outline the proposal. Joining the secretary on the call will be U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado; NEA President Van Roekel and Teach For America Founder and CEO Kopp.
