Joanne Weiss, chief of staff for Secretary Arne Duncan at the U.S. Department of Education, and Karen Cator, director of the Office Educational Technology, will visit Cambridge, Mass., on Thursday, Feb. 16 to participate in a conversation with entrepreneurs and investors about the market conditions for learning technologies and the opportunity for improving student achievement by powering up the learning environment. Cator will give the opening address at 12:30 p.m., and join Weiss and others in the discussion at 12:45. The discussion will provide an opportunity for government officials, entrepreneurs, venture investors, and others to discuss the education landscape, the opportunities for development of new learning technologies, barriers to success, and ideas for how to create a positive ecosystem.

The event is being conducted in conjunction with NewSchools Venture Fund, a not-for-profit organization that funds and supports entrepreneurs who are creating innovative solutions to problems in public education so that all children have the opportunity to succeed in college and beyond.
