Director of the Office of Educational Technology Karen Cator will lead a discussion on the U.S. Department of Education's work to build a new evidence framework for innovation in education at the Software Information Industry Association's (SIIA) annual Ed Tech Summit in San Francisco on May 7. The core objective of the Department's initiative is to understand how technology developers and education researchers can align learning analytics with the improvement of teaching and learning. Cator will be joined by Jeremy Roschelle, director, Center on Technology in Learning at SRI International.
The focus group will address the questions: How can educational researchers take advantage of the wealth of learning data being collected by online systems to obtain better and more dynamic learning measures?; How can new research methods built on expanded use of learning analytics accelerate product development and improvement feedback loops? ; And, how could a well-designed consumers union for learning technologies inform both the developers and the users/purchasers of these products?
The ninth annual SIIA Ed Tech Summit focuses on "Bridging K-12 and Postsecondary," and features topics on transitioning and leveraging ed-tech businesses from one marketplace to another.
