Deputy Assistant Secretary for Special Education and Rehabilitative Services Sue Swenson will participate in the District of Columbia’s 2012 Developmental Disabilities Awareness Celebration on Wednesday, March 21, at the National Youth Transition Center in the District. She will discuss the transition from school to college and career for students with developmental disabilities. She also will highlight the natural tension between strong goals and the need for individualization, and the importance of continuous improvement and technical assistance to help students with the most severe disabilities stay focused on gaining employment.

The celebration is a collaboration of advocacy and government agencies. This year’s theme will focus on transition and employment opportunities for students with disabilities.
