Assistant Secretary Eduardo Ochoa to Participate in Panel Discussions at 98th Annual Meeting of the Association of American Colleges and Universities

U.S. Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education Eduardo Ochoa will serve as a panelist at the 98th Annual Meeting of the Association of American Colleges and Universities on Thursday, Jan. 26 at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C. The meeting's theme is Shared Futures/Difficult Choices: Reclaiming a Democratic Vision for College Learning, Global Engagement and Success.

During a panel discussion at 10:30 a.m., entitled, "Front and Center: Moving Civic Learning from the Sidelines," Ochoa will discuss the Department's perspective on, and commitment to, the civic learning agenda and ways interested institutions and individuals can become involved.

At 2:45 p.m., Ochoa will participate in a panel discussing "Student Learning Outcomes Assessment: What do we know and what needs to happen next?" This session will summarize the key findings from the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment's work over the past three years, drawing on national surveys; interviews with thought leaders, policy makers, faculty and staff; web scans and an array of commissioned papers by experts. This session will focus on the current status and what must happen next to advance the assessment agenda in meaningful, actionable manner.
