Assistant Secretary Brenda Dann-Messier, who heads the Office of Vocational and Adult Education, will deliver a luncheon address to the Literacy Services of Wisconsin Monday in Milwaukee. Representatives from business and education are expected for the event, entitled, “LITERACY: Wisdom for the Common Wealth.”
Dann-Messier will discuss why adult basic education is an urgent priority and the vital role it plays in achieving a robust economy. Literacy Services of Wisconsin educates, motivates, and inspires engaged adults to achieve greater independence and transform their lives. It provides literacy education to motivated adults through the dedication of volunteers, community support and use of specialized curricula to meet individual and community needs.
As assistant secretary, Dann-Messier leads the Education Department's efforts in adult, career and technical education, as well as community colleges and correctional education.
