U.S. Assistant Secretary for Vocational and Adult Education Brenda Dann-Messier will visit Highland Springs High School and Technical Center on Friday, Feb. 22, for a tour and conversation with students, teachers and business partners. The visit also will include a roundtable discussion. The tour will focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and the advanced manufacturing and engineering programs at the school. The roundtable discussion will focus on the Career and Technical Education programs and preparing students for careers.
Following the school visit, Dann-Messier will meet with the Virginia Literacy Leadership Council at 12:15 p.m., ET. The meeting will focus on discussion of President Barack Obama’s goals for innovative thinking to improve adult literacy and to facilitate collaboration among community-based organizations, adult basic education, and community college programs.
Dann-Messier leads the U.S. Department of Education’s efforts in adult education and career and technical education, as well as efforts supporting community colleges and correctional education through the Office of Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE).
